Earlier today Steve Kerr stated during an interview with Ethan Strauss that he believes the NBA’s policy of releasing under 2 minute reports to review each and every officials’ call in the final 2 minutes of games was comparable to throwing them under the bus. Kerr had this to say:
“I don’t like the practice,” Kerr said. “I appreciate the NBA trying to be transparent, but it’s unfair to the officials. I feel like it throws them under the bus. They have an impossible job. They really do. And there are going to be bad calls both ways, every game. They’re never going to be perfect. They’re doing the best they can. I don’t think there’s any point, personally, in exposing bad calls. It doesn’t serve a purpose to me.”
I’ve long believed that the NBA is the worst officiated league in professional sports. Whether it’s the inability of those jabronis to comprehend the rules, or their subjectivity to call fouls for some players as opposed to others, or vacillating between “letting them play” and “calling a close game.” It’s legit incredible that these part-time employees are allowed to wield so much power and influence in a game with little to no accountability.
So, sorry Steven, I’ve got to disagree with you on this one homie.
I’ve also long held that referees should be held to the same accountability standard as players. 2 Minute Reports are a step in the right direction. But, ultimately the most comprehensive and beneficial process would be to require officials to partake in post game press conferences in the same way players and coaches do. If you make a bad call during a crucial moment in the game, the players, coaches and fans deserve an explanation as to why.
Refs should have to get their asses up on a podium and be peppered with questions from reporters just like the rest of the participants in games. IDGAF if the reason you missed a call is because you made a mistake or you didn’t have the right angle or any other B.S. excuse, accountability needs to be there for officials. Shiiiiit, let’s just be honest, most of these guys are on bookies’ payrolls… But we all deserve the satisfaction of knowing these jagaloons were questioned for their preposterous calls.
It’s time we start living in a world where refs aren’t swinging their dicks around like their fucking Henry the 8th. Let’s fight the power Adam Silver, be my champion!
