This ish be screwed up on so many levels, bruh:
According to multiple major news outlets including CBS, the 2 top executives at The Wounded Warrior Project spent approximately 40%-50% OF ALL DONATIONS ON OVERHEAD. This included “extravagant parties” and “private jets” among other things.
Most non-profits spend 10-20% on overhead…
CEO Steve Nardizzi and COO Al Giordano were fired this past week after the news regarding their douchey and lavish expenditures became public.
Yo man, I mean I can understand your average douchebag trying to screw over the average American via some type of con / scheme, BUT USING WOUNDED FREAKING US MILITARY VETERANS TO SCAM PEOPLE!?
That’s some seriously whack shit. As more reports continue to surface relating this story, it seems that these guys were some serious grade-A certified assholes. Good riddance, ya filthy scoundrels.
Here’s some excerpts of CBS’s story on the fraud. The quotes from the article are damning indictments on Nardizzi and Giordano. It’s pretty disturbing to think that this can go on at a non-profit of this size with this type of visibility.
“By appealing to America’s generosity, Wounded Warrior Project raised more than a billion dollars in donations since 2003 — $300 million in 2014 alone.”
“But while the money was pouring in, it was also flowing out on lavish employee conferences — $26 million in 2014.”
“I’ll be damned if you’re gonna take hard-working Americans’ money and drink it and waste it, instead of helping those brave men and women who gave you the freedom to walk the face of this earth.” More than 40 former employees told CBS News that spending by the charity was out of control. Two former employees were so fearful of retaliation they asked us not to show their faces.”
“It was extremely extravagant. Dinners and alcohol and and, just total excess,” one said. “I mean, it’s what the military calls fraud waste and abuse.”
“Former employees also told us the excessive spending began when Nardizzi took over as CEO in 2009. They point to the 2014 annual meeting at a luxury resort in Colorado Springs as typical of his style.”
“He rappelled down the side of a building. He’s come in on a Segway. He’s come in on a horse.”
Wait…. you’re going to tell me that these motherfuckers spent the money of honest / hardworking Americans hoping to do their duty as respectful citizens of the US of A so they can have James Bond-esque / Paul Blart entrances into venues? GTFO here son.
We should lynch these bastards in the street. Better yet, give the scum good old fashion stoning a la “The Leftovers”, because lord knows that a Ned Stark stylo exit via “Game of Thrones” would be WAYYY too easy on them.
